If IBM gets the new system to me soon I will probably develop a HA like solution, RAP/400 is a DR solution and only supports the replication of journalled data and objects. As IBM provides the capability to journal more and more objects then object replication will become less important but today its required for true HA capabilities. I have always said the market is more interested in the protection of their data than objects yet everytime I see a request come through they still say object replication is a requirement! RAP/400 is also dependant on the change of the receiver before it starts applying the data so if the system fails just before a receiver change is due there could be a fair amount of time waiting for the attached receiver to be applied (only important in a HA situation). The new product will apply data as it arrives in the journal receiver so this will not be a problem. I already have a level of object replication built into the older Shield products so will be dusting that off and using it as a base for the product. The rest will come together as I move forward, I am hoping to develop a PHP based interface to see how the technology fits together with DB2 and other i5 objects so its going to have the GUI interface up front.
