There are several exciting moments to reflect on following the Shield team attending COMMON’s PowerUp 2024, Forth Worth Texas.
First, this Podcast – Shield Connects RPi to IBM i. At the Remain Software booth Wim Jongman, interviewed Chris Hird about Shield’s AAG – Nagios Monitoring for IBM i and how a Raspberry Pi (RPi) can be utilized. Hear how and why in ‘Pi to IBM i’.
It was fun running a competition where visitors could enter for a FREE RPi with AAG installed – pre-configured to monitor their environment. With the latest version of AAG there are 180+ check commands, and an exceptional number of data points to monitor and track your IBM i systems. New additions are developed constantly. HMC is now added.
Steve from Hoffmaster was the lucky winner.

Another opportunity at COMMON’s PowerUp Expo was connecting with, and building closer relations with our business partners. We’re proud to work with CloudFirst who were recently recognized as one of the three companies leading innovation at the Expo!

For Chris and I, we had fun joining the time-line wall, as Kisco Systems celebrated 40 years in business – congratulations. We both featured in 1988 working with IBM Havant Plant in the UK – a snippet in time! I was at the UK launch of the AS/400 in Birmingham that year, and Chris had the privilege to unwrap and tinker with the first AS/400 onsite. (At IBM Havant we made the disks that went into the AS/400). We were thrilled to participate and to see the long line of pictures through to the current day. Well done for that Justin Loeber!

It goes without saying the AS/400, IBM i community is long-standing, 36 years as of June 21st. Many of us in the community are inter-linked – exhibitors, presenters and participants – friends, colleagues, customers, and even competition – we are all here to share our knowledge, offer support to give continued success and longevity to the IBM i platform.
