Simple Disaster Recovery

I am looking for feedback, not sure how many hits this blog gets so it may all be in vain! I have an idea about Disaster Recovery for the IBM System i5 which will provide a very cheap solution to many customers. Data Recovery providers could be interested in the solution as well as it offers the provider the option of providing the remote system for data storage. This is not a High Availability Solution! If you need one of those check out our websites and select one of the providers we have listed.

If we had a process which allowed the journal entries to be applied to the database on a regular basis (not synchronously with the source system) would people be interested in such a solution. If the source system is lost you will have your data and journalled objects protected. We would provide the process management around the update of the remote objects but not the application restart etc. Other objects could be added as the solution grows but it will still only provide a level of DR.

The service providers would add the rest of the pieces, they could offer to do the remote backups, they could offer a restore from tape process for the application objects etc. We would also have programs which would replicate user profiles on a constant basis or on a schedule and offer limited object replication. As you can see this is not a High Availability Solution, but it is a better DR solution than a tape restore process offers, your data would be in line with the last received journal entry!

If you feel this is something you would be interested in seeing please comment.
